The Athlete
At just 27, Jesse Miles Lipscombe has not only been recognized as an outstanding athlete by his, city and province but on a national and international level as well. As the grandson of the late Edmonton Eskimo and CFL Hall of Famer, Rollie Miles, Jesse has held or currently holds every provincial record in the high jump from the year 1989-2000.
Lipscombe’s athletic abilities are not limited to track and field. He was identified by the Edmonton Journal as a High School All Star and then went on to be selected to play in the Alberta High School Men’s Basketball All Star Classic. In 1997 Jesse was chosen as a member of Basketball Alberta (top 12 ball players in the province). Canada’s first basketball magazine “Cage”, listed Jesse as one of the top ten high school dunkers in Canada.
Jesse’s excellent athletic achievements along with his strong leadership skills earned him a full scholarship to the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta Georgia, which boasts alumni with the likes of Martin Luther King, Edwin Moses and Spike Lee. While attending Jesse won the NCAA II high jump title.
He has received the Black Achievement Award of Excellence from the Black Achievement Awards Society of Alberta twice and has won the Most Outstanding Athlete award in 1993, 1994, 1997 and 2000.
Oh yeah, Lipscombe is an avid bowler equipped with his own shoes and ball – don’t laugh, he takes it very seriously!
