WHAT A YEAR

picture-1.png
I am back in Edmonton after a year of all years in this sport I so love. I will start from the back and work my way up. Olympics are a no-go, I placed third at the trials with a dismal 2.16 jump (Mike Mason won with a jump of 2.21m and may be representing our country at the games, where I wish him some serious kick butt luck!).
I was worried that a small planter fach strain would prevent me from performing well, however, I was mistaken as my foot felt great. My sub-par performance seemed to be a conglomeration of a number of events spearheaded into one track meet. My ex-coach Linda Blade’s denied request to spend an hour with me pre-trials b/c there “was not enough personal motivation” in it for her def through me for a loop. However, it did open my doors to a number of new possibilities (which I will talk about later).

I have realized that it is difficult to get to the top of your game alone… a team is needed… After some serious medical issues, an abandoning coach, the birth of a baby, the fight to find training partners and facilities and some injuries… all on the year I intend to qualify for the Olympic games… I placed myself up against quite a wall… one I was unable to climb.

So now I sit and contemplate my future in this sport, or another. I know that I have more in me - but it has to be right, it has to be a great fit. If it is more of the same, I cannot dedicate any half-ass time to it. Is this good-bye? I don’t know - I have a few weeks, which may include a trip over seas to jump and make some money and have some fun… I may talk with some potentially new coaches about the possibilities of me relocating… or I may hang up the shoes… again… time will tell… So far, I am loving the ride!
