2008 Season Begins

I began my 2008 track and field season in Southern California. I jumped at the Azusa Invitational on Friday April 18th. The weather was awesome 28 degrees Celsius, and though there were numerous entries in the competition (30-35) the long wait did not have negative effects as it does in colder climates. I jumped 2.20m and had a good crack at 2.25m winning the competition. a good start in my books.

The second meet, the Mt. Sac Invitational was a different story. I did not keep to my pre-game routine as I normally do, and it had some disastrous effects. The lack of proper food, rest, and mental prep (in addition with jumping two days before) had my body feeling like an alien being. Thus, causing me to almost bow out of the competition without a height cleared. I ended up jumping 2.15m but deserved much less.

One thing that stuck with me this go round was how lonely doing poorly is… the lack of a coaching team is not noticed as much in the moments of greatness, but more so when those moments of the unknown approach and some emotional support is needed.

Anyway, I am off to Guadeloup and Martinique this weekend. I promise to have another exciting video of the trip.
